Thoddoo has evidence of a pre-Islamic Buddhist past. Archaeological excavations revealed the remains of a stupa and artifacts (including coins and statues), indicating the island’s significance before the Islamic conversion of the Maldives. Much of this heritage has been documented by researchers and local historians.

Beaches & Snorkeling: Two designated bikini beaches feature powder-white sand and turquoise lagoons, with frequent sightings of sea turtles just offshore.

Thoddoo is the Maldives’ most productive agricultural island, famous for watermelons and papayas. Farms also grow bananas, chillies, cucumbers, and leafy greens. During Ramadan, demand for Thoddoo fruit peaks as produce is shipped to resorts and Malé. Many families own plots and some farmers welcome visitors for informal tours.

From Velana International Airport (MLE), daily public speedboats run directly to Thoddoo (journey typically around 1 hour). Private charters are also available. Depending on sea conditions and operator, travel time can range from about 55 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
